Mike said it felt like we had a hair dryer blowing on us the whole way here… that’s in part because we went without air conditioning the whole ride. Yes we do have it, but we are real men who care about the environment, and we wanted to create our own mobile sweat lodge.
While getting back on course after a wrong turn in
Riverside, we came across an older couple whose truck was stranded at the end
of the off ramp. We stopped, got
out, and pushed them down the ramp to a service station. The older gentlemen told us that he was
going to pray for us on our trip and then asked if we were musicians… it must
be the hair. Either way, we felt
good because it was right thing to do and we made a small deposit in the Karma
account.
We made a stop in Baker (home of the world’s largest
thermometer?) to check out the temperature and get a picture. If you look closely, it reads 120
degrees. That has the hottest
place I have ever been… surprisingly, it wasn’t as bad as we thought it would
be. Mike mentioned that a good
hustle for a local would be selling fresh eggs to people on hot days so that
they could crack one on the pavement and watch it fry in the heat… maybe they
even take your picture or something for 5 smackaroos.
Guess where we stayed?
Here’s a clue… a famous Las Vegas band titled their second studio album
after this casino. Want another
clue? Mike and I got soul, but
were not soldiers! That’s right… The Killers’ 2nd
album is called “Sam’s Town” and is also our home for one night. Definitely a locals’ casino (named
after Sam Boyd) Highlights: the pool, the prime rib, the advertisements for
hosting quincineras, Dunkin Donuts on site, $17 to stay… Lowlights: my Boston Cream donut, the pool closest to our RV
was out of order (read: Dookie), slow wait service, and the hypodermic needle
that almost stuck Mike in the bathroom.
you guys stop for cremees anywhere...? :) OGB
