technically we didn't run out of gas... Check that, we did.

We had a nice short hike along the Lake Phelps Trail in Tetons. Once you hit the lake, you can walk around the edge until you hit this large rock where people like to jump into the lake. I reckon it's somewhere between 25 and 30 feet.

The drive through Idaho was a farmer's paradise.... I think we passed about 10 cars in 3 hours.  We were taking the scenic route, but unfortunately hadn't calculated the available gas stations.  We stopped at the Silver Dollar saloon, surprisingly our first bar of the trip for some local color in this town with a population of 104. We were told that the one gas station in Leadore closed at 8 so we pulled off a service road about 5 miles from town with not a soul in sight. Bonus:  first night of free camping. It was cool, but scary at the same time... Especially when a car came through in the middle of the night.
I get spooked pretty easy so it was fun to freak myself out. Started watching Blade Runner for the first time... Good flick!

The Olive Express hanging tough. We were going to gas up in the morning, but came up short.
... At least we discovered our true mileage range.

Stinkers.... Reminds of someone I know

  1. Those sorta unexpected happenings are what rounds out the stories and experiences on a trip like this. Very cool. At least u found some stinkin gas.

Don't think you're the only one on feeling spooked sometimes. Timmy and I had some nights we felt less than secure on our trip, even in campgrounds - but that's what happens when you're the only ones staying in a pitch black campground.
